Westwood Country Club in Vienna

Always liked receptions at the Westwood Country Club in Vienna.  It’s also a short “commute”, just down the road from our studio at Tysons Corner!   It’s a stunningly beautiful facility and we always enjoy the catering manager Dalila, who likes to assist us with the photos!  Here are a few photos on a cold October afternoon of Jennifer and Tyler’s recent wedding day taken by my associate photographer, Larry Cook.  Click on the thumbnails to enlarge.  See our website, www.philipkent.com for more info…

A Perfect Wedding at the Ft. Belvoir Officers Club

It’s hard to believe that I photographed my first wedding reception at the Ft. Belvoir Officers Club which overlooks the Potomac River,  way back in 1979, 35 years ago!  I was just starting out.  Here we are 3,200 weddings later!  Lately at… FBOC I’ve had weddings where it always seem to rain but Carolyn and Rob’s wedding last week had perfect weather.  In fact, I think it was a perfect wedding!  A few of the photos from the reception here….   Click on thumbnails to enlarge.  Learn more about us on our website at www.philipkent.com.

Trump National Golf Club: A Most Spectacular Venue

I’ve been to just about every country club, hotel, historical site and other wedding venues in the Washington DC area over the years but nothing is as dramatic and impressive as Trump National’s outdoor waterfall terrace overlooking the golf course and the Potomac River near Sterling, Va.  An 80 ft. waterfall surrounds the large terrace which easily holds a couple of hundred people lucky enough to experience this amazing setting.  For information and inquiries regarding our photography please visit our website at philipkent.com.  In the meantime, click on each image to enlarge…

A Simple Guide to Wedding Photography for Couples

There are so many choices for couples today in deciding on who to photograph their wedding, knowing what they want and should get, what it may cost and what is important in all of this.  With thousands of new wedding photographers out there today, mostly part-timers with inexpensive digital cameras and the internet, it’s a free-for-all of misinformation and lack of quality standards.  Everyone is an “expert” and all of this inexperience is detrimental to couples hoping to have a professional preservation of their wedding day memories.

Here is a link to the guide that I created using my 30+ years of experience.  I hope it is useful in your planning and will help you to realize a great wedding experience with your photography!

Photographing Weddings in the Rain… Again!

It seems like we have photographed quite a few weddings this past year on rainy days.  Emily and Jeff’s wedding last Saturday in Old Town Alexandria and the Ft. Belvoir Officers Club presented a few challenges that were overcome with plenty of enthusiasm… and umbrellas!

Nice thing about a rainy day is the softness of the lighting.  Here are a couple of nice portraits of Emily and Jeff under an umbrella or outside the front door of the club but protected under a portico while it’s raining heavily.  No extra lighting used, just the natural light there.

A Fun Reception at the Springfield Golf & Country Club

Valerie and Nick’s recent reception at the Springfield Country Club was a blast.  Following a catholic ceremony at the Church of the Nativity in Burke, a series of outdoor photos were taken on the putting green just outside the ballroom.  Then a fun reception got underway after the introductions of the wedding party which was an event in itself!   Click on each image to enlarge.

The Spectacular NEW Army-Navy Country Club

Open less than a year, the NEW Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington is a spectacular addition to northern Virginia’s wealth of beautiful wedding venues.  The facility is first-class with dramatic stairwells, ballrooms and a huge outdoor patio area with unique views of Washington.  Shannon and Jack’s wedding there recently was a great pleasure to photograph in such a setting.  Here are just a few of the hundreds of great images that were created.  Click on any of the images to enlarge.
