About Phil

I began to study photography in a serious way in high school.  After a few years in the military I studied at the renown Brooks Institute of Photography & Filmmaking in Santa Barbara, Ca., where I earned a B.A. Degree in Commercial Photography and Business.  Unlike most photographers today who started in photography as a second career, I made this a lifetime committment at a very young age.  The advantage of this I feel this gives me is a broader range of experience as well as a higher skill level compared to most Professional Photographers.

After graduating from Brooks I started the Philip Kent Studio which rapidly grew in the 1980′s and ’90s into what it is today: a highly successful business known for its great reputation and specializing in high-quality Wedding Photography and Portraiture.  Though we are known for great wedding photography throughout Northern Va., we also have photographed weddings in almost every venue in Washington, DC and nearby Maryland.

In 1995,  I was awarded the title of Master Photographer by the Professional Photographers of America, their highest honor, based on years of awards and accomplishments.  These included winning state photographic competitions, scoring high in national competitions, and conducting seminars for other photographers.

Today I enjoy the advancements in digital photography and the expanded opportunites created by the synergism of new technologies and timeless art concepts.  Photography has never been more fun, and you no longer have to get your hands wet!
